The Mediterranean shipping industry takes a new step forward. In fact, the Spanish shipping company Baleària has been given the go-ahead by theBarcelona Port Authority to build a new dedicated ferry terminal at the Adossat pier, one of the Catalan port’s most strategic hubs.
The request, submitted in December 2024, has turned into a concrete project that further strengthens Barcelona ‘s role as a privileged gateway to the Balearic Islands and North Africa.
A strategic investment of more than 25 million
The new terminal will rise on a total area of 75,000 square meters and will be designed to accommodate up to four ships simultaneously. The concession contract will run for 27 years, while Baleària’s planned investment amounts to 25.3 million euros.
The project will be developed in several phases. The first, covering an area of 38,000 square meters, will start operation from February 2027. In contrast, total completion of the work is expected by the end of 2029.
Infrastructure-wise, the terminal will include:
-
A 5,600-square-meter main building for passengers, offices and services
-
Dedicated areas for ro-ro operations to load and unload cargo and vehicles
-
parking lots for cars, trucks and semi-trailers
-
Dedicated cab, bus and utility zones
A project designed to optimize flow, time and comfort for both passengers and freight traffic.

This investment is part of a broader strategy to expand and consolidate the routes operated by Baleària, which now connects some of the most important destinations between Europe, North Africa and beyond.
