Port of Genoa: new summer schedules and H24 gates for ferries

As of July 28, 2025, a new organization of the opening hours of the Port of Genoa’s gates went into effect on an experimental basis, which will remain in effect until September 14. This is an important innovation designed to improve accessibility to the port during the summer period, when ferry and passenger traffic peaks.

This reorganization aims to make the port more efficient, safe and modern, and the summer will be the key time to test its effectiveness. If the results are positive, its final implementation in the coming months is not ruled out.

Highlights for ferries in the Port of Genoa

With the arrival of summer, the Port of Genoa gets a makeover: for the first time, the Passo Nuovo and Albertazzi gates, used for ferry access, remain open 24 hours a day. An important innovation that allows for better flow management and more flexible travel, even during the night hours.

The gate at Via Milano, already operational since last summer, also remains active, continuing to operate in a “hybrid” mode between port and ferry traffic, while awaiting the latest road upgrades.

For those arriving on foot, there is good news: the pedestrian entrances at the turnstiles at the Old Pier Head, Grazie and Passo Nuovo are always open and remotely monitored, so you can enter the port at any time of the day.

  • Passo Nuovo and Albertazzi toll gates: become operational 24 hours a day for the first time, providing greater flexibility in ferry access.

  • Via Milano gate: already operational since July 2024, it maintains the dynamic mode between ferry and port traffic until the road adjustments are completed.

  • Pedestrian access: turnstiles at Old Pier Head, Grazie and Passo Nuovo will be active in continuous mode, with remote surveillance.

Digital and infrastructure security

A new control room has been in operation since 2025, managing the thirteen gates in real time through an advanced video surveillance and operational tracking system, in coordination with security authorities.

Goals of the reorganization of the port of Genoa
