Ponza and Ventotene: the Pontine Islands from Formia

If you’re thinking of visiting the islands of Lazio for the All Saints’ Day long weekend (October 31, November 1, and 2), ferries depart from the port of Formia for Ponza and Ventotene. For schedules, prices, and discounts on the former, you’ll find everything in the guide to Laziomar Formia–Ponza Ferries. For the second route, see the guide to Laziomar Formia–Ventotene ferries and hydrofoils.

Ferry or hydrofoil: the difference when traveling by car, RV, or motorcycle

The difference between ferries and hydrofoils is especially important for those who want to bring their own vehicle. Ferries carry cars and motorcycles. Hydrofoils and high-speed vessels are reserved for passengers only. On Liberty Lines routes (Egadi Islands, Aeolian Islands, Ustica, Pelagie Islands), you therefore travel without a car. On Grimaldi Lines’ Livorno–Olbia route and on Caremar ferries, you can bring your vehicle on board.

Between October and November, there are more ferry connections to the islands than you might think. Schedules are subject to change, so always confirm your departure on the company’s website before booking.
